Me

Hello! I'm Brent, online also known as TheAlgorithm476. Welcome to my site!
I live in Brakel, a town in Flanders, Belgium. I'm 20 years old, and a fresh Applied Computer Science graduate at University College Ghent.

In my spare time, you can usually find me working on some new idea I got, spending time hosting game servers for friends, or working towards building rockets.

I'm the kind of person that sets goals that are borderline impossible, and are a challenge to reach. A perfectionist at heart, I only deliver something if I would want to use it myself.

Additionally, I'm a firm believer that out-of-the-box thinking is the most efficient approach to problem solving, so that what I'll try to do whenever possible. Everytime I encounter a bug, glitch, issue, or any other game-breaker, instead of directly working on the problem, I first try to get a birds-eye view of the general issue, making it possible to approach it from the most efficient angle possible.

What have I done before that got me to where I am at now?

July 2021 - present

Project

ITN Revival

ITN Revival is a Minecraft server I started in July of 2021, to play Minecraft over the summer with a couple of friends. Since its humble beginnings, ITN Revival has presently grown to about 15 active players, with a lot of custom features. ITN Revival has sharpened my experience in working with the JVM, specifically Kotlin (mod development) and Java (mixins).

April 2022 - present

Project

Grove Gok

The Grove Gok is a (Flemish) website, where people can make predictions for the European and World Cups Soccer. The project was commissioned by my father and a friend of his, after getting annoyed by the manual labour involved in letting people submit paper ballots with their predictions. Over time, the project grew, and it is now a full-fletched platform, offering account creation, digital hand-in of predictions, (manual) payment processing, and automatic score calculation.

February 2023 - present

Project

Astar Technologies

Astar Technologies is a project originally started as a hobby, where I build model rockets that can land themselves. Over time, the project grew, and I am taking steps towards turning it into an aerospace startup, offering suborbital launch services to researchers & academia.

October 2025 - present

Project

ArduinoKit

ArduinoKit is a standard library for AVR-based microcontrollers, written in Swift, based on CoreAVR. The project is a result of my internship at Swift for Arduino, because of the need for a higher-level library to complement to lower-level CoreAVR. They have given me permission to keep maintaining ArduinoKit myself, also allowing me to keep close ties with my internship provider.

September 2025 - December 2025

Swift for Arduino

Intern

I interned at Swift for Arduino for about 3 months for my College studies. During this time, I worked on CoreAVR, a HAL for AVR microcontrollers, written completely in Swift. Additionally, I also established the ArduinoKit project, a standard library built on top of CoreAVR, allowing users to use an easier, more familiar Arduino-like API.

2022 - 2023

Crelan Ninove

Administrative Assistant (Summer Job)

During the summers of 2022 and 2023, I worked at Crelan, a Belgian bank, in Ninove, as an administrative assistant. I was tasked with classifying and digitizing documents, as well as basic customer service and support.

September 2021 - December 2022

Project

Octan

In my last year of high school, I worked together with a classmate to develop "Octan", a rhythm game. The projected consisted of Octan; the actual game, Divergence; a custom game engine written in Java that powered it, and OctanWeb; a custom webserver hosting its website, also written in Java. After graduating high school, my classmate and I decided to keep developing the concept, but she lost interest a few months later, causing the project to end.
